On April 10, 1968, approximately one week after Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, the Fair Housing Act (also known as Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968) was signed into law. The purpose of the law is to protect people from discrimination when they're renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in housing-related activities. In this course, we'll discuss who is protected, the housing types that are covered, and what actions are prohibited under the law when it comes to selling, renting, and lending practices.
